Xiaomi announces Mi Mix 4 with an under-display selfie camera

 At an event in mainland China, last Tuesday, Xiaomi unveiled its new phone in the Mi Mix series, the series that includes the latest technologies that Xiaomi has reached in the world of smartphones. This phone comes nearly three years after the unveiling of the Mi Mix 3 5G phone and two years after the unveiling of the Mi Mix Alpha model phone with its unique design; and for the first time in the company’s history, Mi Mix 4 offers a full screen from edge to edge with a selfie camera located below, or the so-called Camera Under the Panel (CUP), to become Xiaomi one of the first companies in the world to introduce this technology in its smart products.

This new technology, Xiaomi says that it has developed for five years, spans three major generations, sixty patents, and an investment of 77 million US dollars and hundreds of engineers in it.

The Mi Mix 4 comes with leading technical specifications and a relatively cheap price compared to the rest of the competitors, which makes this phone a unique piece of technology worth owning, as it comes with a 6.67-inch 3D curved AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and 480Hz touch sampling, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The 6.67-inch Full-View display has a pixel density of 440 pixels per inch in the camera area, matching the pixel density, brightness, and color detail of the surrounding display.

This new Mi Mix phone is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ octa-core 5G processor with a 5 nm process accuracy of up to 3.0 GHz, with an Adreno 660 GPU, and it is available with an internal storage of UFS 3.1 of up to 512 GB, and internal storage memory of up to 512 GB, and Random-Access Memory (RAM) type LPDDR5 up to 12 GB.

The smartphone comes with a 4500 mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging and 50W wireless charging, allowing the battery to fully charge from 0% to 100% in just 21 minutes using the wire, and in 45 minutes using a wireless charging base. To speed up the charging process, Xiaomi has added a Boost mode to the phone, which when activated, enables the phone to charge faster and achieve from 0% to 100% in just 15 minutes using the wired charger, and in 28 minutes using a wireless charger.

The new Xiaomi phone has a triple rear camera system consisting of a 108MP (f/1.9) wide-angle main camera that supports Dual Pixel Autofocus (PDAF), laser autofocus, optical image stabilization (OIS), and a 13MP camera. Ultra-wide (f/2.2) and an 8-megapixel (f/4.1) telephoto camera that supports PDAF and OIS, enabling Mi Mix 4 to reach up to X5 optical zoom and X20 digital zoom. The camera at the bottom of the screen on the Mi Mix 4 is a 20MP wide-angle camera that can record videos up to 1080p at 30fps.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 comes with Bluetooth 5.2, WIFI 6E, VoLTE, NFC, IR blaster, under-display fingerprint, stereo speakers with sound tuned by Harman Kardon, USB Type-C charging port, and no SD card slot or 3.5 mm jack port.

Xiaomi’s Ultra-Wide Bande (UWB) technology is baked into Xiaomi MIX 4, compatible with select smart home products to enable “Point to connect” features. With this, simply point your smartphone towards any compatible Xiaomi IoT device, and you can immediately connect it to your Xiaomi MIX 4.

For better cellular speeds and signal strength, Xiaomi MIX 4 boosts antenna performance by using a unique interior metal case as an antenna amplifier. It also supports adaptive controls to further optimize signal and speed up the connection when you need it most. Xiaomi MIX 4 also has 19 antennas built-in and supports 42 bands with signal quality optimizations for 8 scenarios, as well as automatically identifying environment, optimizing network configuration, and enabling manual location entry to further optimize signal quality in high traffic areas. Xiaomi MIX 4 provides system-wide AI translation which can not only translate text or images but can also transcribe and translate audio. Xiaomi MIX 4 can automatically generate subtitles and subtitles in real-time on the device, which can be used for communication between languages.
