Huawei announced a new flagship foldable phone in the popular P series, the first foldable smartphone from this series, as the other foldable devices were from the Mate series (Mate X and Mate X2). This smartphone comes in a form somewhat similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or the Motorola Razr 2, as it is a smartphone with a touch screen that folds inward to create a small phone with a small secondary screen, which you can easily fit in your pocket.
Huawei P5 Pocket comes with a 6.9-inch Foldable OLED display, with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 300 Hz sampling rate, a 2790x1180 pixels resolution, 21:9 aspect ratio, 442 pixels per inch density, and support displaying 1.7 billion colors.
The main screen has also an anti-reflection nano-optical layer and 1440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming technology that offers a comfortable viewing experience even in low light conditions and protects the user's eyes.
At the back of the phone, there are two relatively large circles, the first of which holds the camera system consisting of 3 cameras and LED flash, while the second circle contains a small 1.04 inches OLED secondary screen (aka the cover screen) with a resolution of 340 by 340 pixels, and a resolution of 328 pixels per inch.
The Pocket P50 comes with what Huawei calls a new multidimensional hinge that appears when the phone is folded, which allows the Pocket P50 to be folded smoothly without leaving any gap between the two sections of the main screen, or any crease mark on it when opened.
The new Huawei foldable smartphone has an ultra-wide-angle camera array consisting of a 40MP wide-angle primary camera with f/1.8 aperture that supports autofocus (PDAF and Laser AF), and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, 120° field-of-view, and a third 32-megapixel ultra-wide-angle Spectrum camera integrated with a UV light sensor and supports laser autofocus. The Ultraviolet light sensor enables the phone to take fluorescent pictures that the human eyes cannot see.
Thanks to Huawei's innovative technologies embedded in the P series to which this phone belongs such as HUAWEI XD Optics and True-Chroma Image Engine, the camera system enables it to capture high-resolution photos in night mode and in poor lighting conditions, as well as macro photos of very close objects up to 2.5 centimeters away. The images retain all their color and detail when zoomed in, unlike some other competitors' phones.
At the top of the main screen, there is a 10.7 MP ultra-wide-angle selfie camera with an f/2.2 lens slot in the form of a punch hole that enables it to take acceptable selfies. the cover screen can be used to take better quality selfies using the triple rear camera system.
The phone comes with a set of dynamic animated themes (animals, toys, landscapes...; etc.) that appear together on the main screen and on the cover screen. The user can create his own dynamic theme (for his pet, for example) by capturing a small video on the phone and setting it as dynamic wallpaper.
The cover screen also supports Harmony OS services widgets for Huawei and other third-party applications, allowing it to display a range of useful information to the user when the P50 Pocket is folded, such as weather, calendar, music player, camera, map directions, display of incoming messages.
Huawei P50 Pocket comes in two color options: black and white. The back of the white model is made of 3D micro-sculpting glass, which gives the phone a distinctive look and feels.
There is also a special Premium Edition of the HUAWEI P50 Pocket designed in collaboration with haute couture designer Iris Van Herpen in the color of sand.
Huawei Pocket P50 weighs only 190 grams and comes with the 4G variant of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with Adreno 660 GPU, 8 to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 256 to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage extendable by a Nano Memory card up to 256 GB using one of the SIM cards slots. It runs on Harmony OS 2.0 and supports NFC, Wi-Fi 6, and USB Type-C 2.0 for charging and data transfer. It supports Face unlock on the main and cover screen, and has a side mounted fingerprint scanner.
For the battery, the P50 Pocket comes with a 4000mAh battery, that supports Huawei SuperCharge fast charging technology. This new Huawei phone also has a mode called Super Privacy Mode, which when activated disables the camera, microphone and location services when the phone is folded
