The developers of the Zorin OS Linux distribution have announced the availability of Zorin OS 16.1. This is not a major OS version; it is only Zorin OS 16 with the latest software and security updates available up to date.
The goal of the Zorin OS 16.1 release is to save time for new Zorin OS users, as it already has the latest available version of the software, so they don't have to download a lot of updates after installation.
This version is based on Ubuntu 20.04.4 with long-term support, with a recent Linux kernel version 5.13.0, to provide support for more modern hardware and devices such as the newer NVIDIA graphics cards (as the RTX 3050), Apple Magic Mouse 2, Sony console PlayStation 5 DualSense, 12th generation Intel Core processors, printers from Epson, HP, Canon, Fuji Xerox, DYMO, as well as support for many other Wi-Fi and audio devices.
Zorin OS 16.1 comes with the latest major release of LibreOffice, version 7.3.0, to bring the latest new features to users, better compatibility with Microsoft Office document formats, and better dark mode support.
The list of updated software also includes Firefox 97.0.2 (you can get the latest version when you update your device), GIMP 2.10, Pitivi 0.999, Snapd 2.54.3, Flatpak 1.12.4, and Mesa 21.2.6.
Zorin OS users can update to version 16.1 of the distribution by installing all available updates in the update manager, while users who purchased the Pro version of the distribution will have to use the download link in the original purchase email to be able to download the new version of Zorin OS 16.1 Pro or Pro Lite.
For new users who want to download Zorin OS 16.1, they can head to the official website of the distro to download it.
Zorin OS 16.1 is based on Ubuntu 20.04, so it will receive software updates and security patches until April 2025.
